The Bureau International des Containers et du Transport Intermodal (B.I.C.)

Michel Hennemand, Chairman of B.I.C., and Miguel Lopera, President and CEO of GS1, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Brussels yesterday. The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation and technical collaboration between both organizations.

B.I.C. and GS1 will cooperate, support and encourage the harmonization of supply chain standards for Freight, Transport and Logistics.

They agreed on the complementarity of the standards of both organizations, on the importance of GS1 developing global standards for the Supply chain and on the well established position of B.I.C. in the development and enforcement of global standards used to uniquely identify owners or principal operators of freight containers in international trade.

The parties will contribute to the definition of the standards via the relevant ISO groups and through internal standards development activities such as the GS1 GSMP (Global Standards Management Process). The aim is to achieve common or fully interoperable standards for the benefit of their global user base.
