eCom is the GS1 term for electronic
commerce. One of the most important forms of electronic commerce
is Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computer-to-computer
exchange of business documents between companies, using a standard
format. EDI replaces the traditional processes of preparing data
in paper form and sending it by mail or fax. The use of EDI bridges
the previous information gap that existed between companies with
different computer systems and applications.
EDI is based on the use of message standards, ensuring that
all participants use a common language. A message standard consists
of uniform formats for business documents which have been adopted
for electronic transmission purposes. It also includes security
and control elements and other rules and conventions relating to
the use of transaction sets that all users agree to follow.
GS1 China has been closely following the steps of its international
counterparts to carry out eCom related tasks. In 2007, GS1 China
submitted for a national standard, "Business Message Standard for
Core Party on the Basis of ebXML", for approval and completed an
AQSIQ project named "Research and Application Demonstration of Critical
Standards on the Basic Data Platform of Collaborative Operation
System in the Commercial Circulation Area of China".
In respect of UNSPSC, GS1 China completed the localization
of UNSPSC, which involved efforts in the localization and content
updating of UNSPSC V9.1201_ENGLISH, UNSPSC V9.0501 BASE and UNSPSC_V8.1201_ENGLISH,
the verification, comparison and content updating of code sets,
and the development of a platform for user exchange.
Additionally, GS1 China is looking into ways to effectively
combine the work related to GPC and GDSN and follow up on GS1 Global
tasks related to EDI/FACT and ebXML in order to better fulfill China's
need for e-Commerce development. |
